Pottery Workshops
Hi, I’m Kathy – a local potter based in Waikuku Beach, North Canterbury. My classes are a relaxed, creative way to slow down and get your hands muddy. Whether you’re just starting out, building on your skills, or looking for something fun to do with a group of friends, you’re welcome here. We keep things simple, hands-on, and connected – with clay, with each other, and with the joy of making something from scratch.
Beginners 10 WEEK coarse.
Every term I teach a 10 Week beginners coarse at Waimakariri Pottery Groups club rooms in Loburn. On a Wednesday evening 7-9pm. $250 per term.
This beginners pottery coarse is designed for those eager to explore clay develop essential hand-building techniques in a fun and relaxed environment. Each session introduces you to a new skill, guiding students through core construction methods, surface treatments, and glazing techniques. By the end of the course, students will have a collection of unique handmade pieces and the confidence to continue their pottery journey.

General term Classes.
Every term I teach a 10 Week general Class at Waimakariri Pottery Groups club rooms in Loburn.Wednesday Morning 9.30am to 12.30pm. $270 per term.
Ideal for potters who know the basics and are ready to continue developing their skills. These classes offer a relaxed, supportive environment with guidance from me to help refine your technique and progress your personal projects.

Waikuku Beach – The Garden Studio
Come and make your very own ceramic mug in a relaxed, small-group workshop at my home studio in Waikuku Beach. We’ll work with beautiful speckled stoneware clay, and I’ll guide you step-by-step through the hand-building process—no experience needed.
You’ll have time to add character and detail to your mug, then decorate it using underglazes or carving tools. After the workshop, I’ll glaze your piece in a clear or white glaze, then it will be fired and finished ready for you to enjoy at home.
What you’ll learn
Simple hand building and joining techniques
Adding texture and detail (handle, shape & patterns)
Decorating with underglaze is optional
