Pottery Workshops

Waikuku Beach – The Garden Studio

Come and make your very own ceramic mug in a relaxed, small-group workshop at my home studio in Waikuku Beach. We’ll work with beautiful speckled stoneware clay, and I’ll guide you step-by-step through the hand-building process—no experience needed.

You’ll have time to add character and detail to your mug, then decorate it using underglazes or carving tools. After the workshop, I’ll glaze your piece in a clear or white glaze, then it will be fired and finished ready for you to enjoy at home.

What you’ll learn

• Simple hand building and joining techniques

• Adding texture and detail (handle, shape & patterns)

• Decorating with underglaze is optional

• Speckled stoneware clay

• Underglaze and decorating time

• All firings

• Final clear/white glaze applied by me

You’ll have time to add character and detail to your Gnome, witch or wizard, then add colour using underglazes. After the workshop, I’ll glaze your piece in a clear glaze, then it will be fired and finished ready for you to enjoy at home.

• Simple slab-building and joining techniques

• Adding texture and detail (hat, hair, patterns)

• Decorating with underglaze for a one-of-a-kind finish

You’ll have time to add character and detail to your house, then decorate it using a selection of coloured underglazes. After the workshop, I’ll glaze your piece in a clear glaze, then it will be fired and finished ready for you to enjoy at home.

• Decorating with underglaze for a one-of-a-kind finish

What’s Included:

3Hour Pottery Workshop
Led by Kathy in her beachside studio, your group will create a beautiful handmade piece together. No experience needed – just bring your curiosity and a willingness to get your hands a little muddy.

Food & Chill Zone
Bring your own drinks, snacks, or grazing platter – we’ve got a designated setup area and a lush garden to unwind in. Lawn games will be waiting outside to keep the vibes relaxed and playful.

Mid-Session Break
We’ll take a short pause halfway through – a chance to snack, sip, chat, and soak in the creative energy of the studio and garden.

Workshop Details:

Group Size: 4–10 people

Availability: Weekdays, evenings, and public holidays available – we’ll confirm your requested date within 24 hours.

Collection Time: Your pieces will be glazed and fired, ready to collect in 3–5 weeks.

All guests in the group will make the same item:

• Mugs – $80 pp

• Tea Light House – $80 pp

• Soap Dish – $70 pp

• Christmas Theme (Gnome or Tree) – $80 pp

Includes up to 600g of clay per person.
